Earn the risk-free rate on your cash

Interest rates have increased significantly over the past 18 months. And yet, your bank account or your stablecoins still yield 0%. Or your term accounts lock your money for several months at suboptimal rates. Instead of letting your cash lose its purchasing power, investing in the Spiko funds allows you to capitalize on the rise of interest rates with the ability to cash out at any time.

FAQs

What happens to my investment if Spiko goes bankrupt?

You’re safe. As a regulated fund distributor, Spiko is prohibited from manipulating its clients’ money. Your money is therefore never - even for a short period of time - on Spiko's balance sheet. Your money is held by CACEIS, one of the world’s largest custodian bank and a subsidiary of banking groups Crédit Agricole and Santander. If Spiko goes bankrupt, your assets are therefore fully protected.

What is the risk-free rate?

In finance, the risk-free rate is the return on assets whose risk of default is so low as to be considered negligible:

  • The USD risk-free rate is the yield of short-term bonds issued by the United States Federal Government.
  • The EUR risk-free rate is the yield of short-term government bonds issued by the strongest Eurozone countries (typically the German Federal Government).

By exclusively investing in such securities, our funds strive to reward investors with the USD and EUR risk-free rates.

Is my capital at risk?

Your capital may be at risk in two specific situations:

  • If a government defaults on any T-Bill held by one of our funds. This risk is lower than the risk of your bank going bankrupt, as Spiko funds only invest in the U.S. federal debt (USD funds) and the debt of the safest countries in the Eurozone (EUR funds) such as Germany and the Netherlands. These issuers are considered the safest in the world. No government in which Spiko funds invest has ever defaulted on its debt.
  • If interest rates set by central banks become very low or negative. In this case, it is possible that the yield of Spiko funds becomes negative. In such a situation, you can withdraw your money from the fund at any time and place it in a current account that costs - or earns - nothing.

Can I invest as an individual?

Certainly! We welcome all types of investors, namely:

  • individuals and entities (e.g. foundations, private companies, DAOs, etc.)
  • professionnal and non-professionnal investors.

Some geographic limitations apply. Please refer to our documentation (link below) for more details.

Can the funds’ yield change?

Yes. Short-term government bonds’ yields tend to align with the benchmark interest rates set by central banks. Therefore, funds’ performance is subject to change, especially based on monetary policy decisions of the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank.

Can I invest if I am not familiar with blockchains and wallets?

Yes. We provide all investors with a secured wallet by default. A wallet is nothing more than an account to interact with blockchain networks. You can either receive your fund shares on the wallet of your choice (e.g. MetaMask, Coinbase, Ledger, etc.) or use the one we provide you with. We recommend using your own wallet only if you are familiar with blockchain technology and the challenges of private key storage.

Do the funds invest in crypto-assets?

No. The funds are prohibited from holding crypto-assets, of any kind. Blockchains are only used to keep track in a secure way of the register of the funds’ shareholders. This allows us to provide you with high-quality financial instruments, always available and at a low fee.
